Melissa Clayton, creator of The Matte, was inspired to find a solution for her makeup application struggles. Frustrated by makeshift counters, she envisioned a sink cover that could also serve as storage in her compact bathroom. Overcoming challenges to find an industrial designer, she developed a unique mat design that could cover a sink and support weight, yet fold to a portable size.
