Albert Fouquet, a member of the elite French society in the early 20th century and a discerning perfume enthusiast, dedicated himself to crafting and perfecting various essences for personal use, with assistance from Philippe, the family butler. In the summer of 1937, during his vacation on the Côte d'Azur, Albert crossed paths with John, a young American student touring France in a convertible. Impressed by Albert's captivating fragrance, John persuaded him to share a sample. Upon returning to Paris, Albert received a letter from John, expressing the popularity of his scent in the US and requesting eight more samples, adding a note for "Bob." This encounter marked the inception of Eight & Bob, initiated by John F. Kennedy. The formulas faced near-loss during WWII, saved only by Philippe's ingenious idea of concealing bottles inside books and sending them to his family to thwart Nazi seizure attempts. Decades later, thanks to Philippe's family, the formulas and production processes were recovered, restoring Eight & Bob as one of the most exclusive names in the fragrance realm. The limited and variable annual production of Eight & Bob is a result of the scarcity of the "Andrea" plant, whose extracts form the essence of Albert's original cologne.
The eau de parfum opens with top notes of pink pepper, cardamom, and lemon, transitioning to a heart of violet leaves, labdanum, and dried wood. The warm and sensual base notes of sandalwood, vetiver, and amber complete this citrus-woody fragrance.
